2020 was my 25th year of editing the TdF and my 20th year as lead editor. The shows have also been nominated for a 2021 BAFTA.Īlthough both were postponed to later in the year, I worked again on ITV's coverage of the Tour de France and La Vuelta. It has been recommissioned by C4 for 60 episodes, including prime-time versions and five themed programmes. It has been a great success and the shows grabbed more viewers in the 4pm weekday slot than any previous strand. I also designed and built the majority of the graphics as Motion templates. Though I haven't yet tried to herd a flock of sheep through the city centre! Current EditingĢ020 has been busy, the beginning of the year was finishing off a new property series (cut on FCP) for Channel 4 called The Great House Giveaway.
I was made a Freeman of Lichfield through The Worshipful Company of Smiths (established 1601). Under the name Idustrial Revolution, I have written and sold plugins for Final Cut Pro for 13 years. I have also worked as a broadcast and corporate editor for over 30 years, starting on one inch tape, working through many formats, right up to today's NLEs. I am the Editor-in-Chief of FCP.co and have run the website since its inception ten years ago. This latest version of iMovie doesn't upload directly either, you have to export a self-contained movie and then upload that. So after watching Rahma, we fired up iMovie to reacquaint ourselves - one thing that she mentioned, but didn't elaborate on, was the process of exporting to YouTube. Take similar YouTuber Susan Carolyn who thinks nothing of airdropping clips to her phone to apply filters in an app called Video Star and then airdropping them back! Can we be the first to use the phrase 'Airtripping' in the video sense? App swapping (roundtripping?) seems to be very popular for iMovie editors to get footage or an effect that they need, often for free. We like the way that she doesn't see any obstacles to her editing, she also uses some of the online services we have previously featured like Canva and Remove.bg.
Also, there's also a lot to learn (even for us FCP veterans) by watching somebody else edit and Rahma's enthusiasm and creativity is like a breath of fresh air to anybody who has to sit in traditional broadcast suites. First, we tend to forget that iMovie is a subset of Final Cut Pro and many editors use it as a stepping stone to get up to the more complex NLE. We're including this tutorial into the growing FCP.co list of tutorial videos for a few reasons.
